Lanzarote has once again received seven blue flags for its clean beaches and more than half of the beaches awarded are in Puerto del Carmen. The blue flags will fly in Playa Grande, Matagorda, Pila de la Barrilla and los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen. One flag has been given to the small beach in Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise has recieved one fo Playa Las Cucharas.Unfortunately the Jabillo beach, which lost the flag in the last edition has still not managed to recover it. The seventh flag on the beaches has been again for El Reducto beach, in Arrecife, which since 2018 has had this recognition again, after having spent 16 years without one. In addition, the island has added an eighth flag in the category of ports, which has gone to the Marina Puerto Calero. In total, the Canary Islands have received four awards in this category, and one of them has been for the port of Lanzarote. The Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Federation of Environmental Education). In Spain, this initiative is coordinated by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), to distinguish those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in the quality of bathing water, comply with environmental regulations and have sanitary infrastructure and adequate security to guarantee the health and safety of the users.
Needless to say here in Lanzarote the beaches without Blue Flags are still of excellent quality!
